FOR FILM SHOOTERS

Where film meets digital

Know when, where and how you shot it

Scanned film photos carry no record of when or where they were taken, or of your camera settings. There’s no way to look back at what gear you used or how you shot.

BEFOREWithout CONTACT

AFTERWith CONTACT

With CONTACT, your photos line up in the order you shot them, and you’ll be able to search them by gear, date or place. Look back at the settings and gear behind a shot that worked, and bring them to your next shoot.

HOW TO USE

Three simple steps.

STEP 01/ 03

Add your gear and film

Add your cameras and lenses, then load a new roll. Rolls you’re shooting and developing are listed together, so you can see where each one stands at a glance.

STEP 02/ 03

Log each shot

Each time you press the shutter on your film camera, save the shot in the CONTACT app.

STEP 03/ 03

Write the log into your photos

Once your film is developed, pick the scanned photos. Check them side by side with your shooting log (Exif), then write it in.

01 — ALL ON YOUR PHONE

From logging to writing,
all on your phone

Write your shooting log into scanned photos (JPEG/TIFF) using nothing but your phone.

It only adds your shooting data — image quality is never affected.

  • iPhone / AndroidJPEG / TIFF
  • MacDNG / JPEG / TIFF

02 — OPERATION

Effortless to operate

When you’re shooting, there’s no time for fiddly controls. CONTACT is built to log each shot quickly: camera settings, even lens changes, are all handled intuitively on a single screen.

ABOUT THE MAKERCONTACT is made by a UI/UX designer in Tokyo who still shoots film. Logging quickly without hesitation, never mis-tapping — every detail is crafted for the comfortable controls they wanted in the field.

03 — AUTO ASSIGN

Forgot to log a shot?
No problem

Sometimes you forget. Out of 36 frames, only 11 were logged — even so, CONTACT infers the missing details and fills in every photo.

04 — FINISH ON MAC

Fine-tune on Mac

With CONTACT LINK on your Mac, you can edit Exif data in more detail and with more flexibility. Shots you log on your phone arrive on your Mac as they are.

Along with JPEG and TIFF, it also supports DNG.

05 — DIGITAL × VINTAGE LENS

For digital cameras
with vintage lenses, too

Mount a vintage lens without electronic contacts, and your digital camera records neither the lens name nor the focal length.

CONTACT keeps everything your digital camera recorded, and adds only the missing lens information.

FAQ

FAQ

QHow much does it cost?
All features are free until the end of February 2027, and films you log during the public beta stay free to write to your photos after that. Pricing from March 2027 will be announced later.
QWhat can I record?
Seventeen items: camera, lens, film stock, ISO, date & time, time zone, location, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, exposure mode, exposure compensation, frame number, notes, photographer, copyright and serial number.
QDoes it affect image quality?
Not at all. CONTACT only adds your shooting data (Exif) to the file; the image itself is left untouched.
QWhat happens to my original photos?
When you write on your phone, the result is saved as a new photo and your original stays as it is (on Android, it goes to your Downloads folder). When you write on Mac, the information is written directly to the original photo. Either way, the image itself (its quality) doesn’t change.
QDo I need to install an app?
No App Store or Google Play download is needed. Open it in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, and add it to your Home Screen to use it as an app. On a Mac, nothing needs to be installed for JPEG/TIFF (ExifTool, which is free, is required only for writing to DNG files).
QWhere is my data stored?
By default, your logs are stored only on your phone, and nothing you log is ever sent to us. However, your logs may be lost if you change phones or lose your device.

If you choose “Save to cloud” in Settings, your logs are stored in Google’s cloud (Firebase) (this requires signing in with a Google account). Built on Google’s secure infrastructure, only you, when signed in, can read and write them. Your logs stay safe when you change phones, and working with your Mac becomes even smoother.
QDoes it work on Windows?
Windows is not supported.
QI use Lightroom and Negative Lab Pro. Can I use CONTACT with them?
Yes. You can write Exif data directly into negatives imported into Lightroom Classic and converted with Negative Lab Pro.
After writing, run “Read Metadata from Files” in Lightroom Classic to bring your shooting log into the Lightroom catalog.
Camera-specific raw files must be converted to DNG first. Detailed instructions will be provided separately.
